Even though I found this clever novel to be a page turner I did not want to finish reading it too fast; I wanted to savour every chapter of the story. I particularly enjoyed getting acquainted with the gripping cast of characters and following their steps through Paris, Stockholm and Cambridge, MA. It was unavoidable for me to feel their joy, anguish, sadness, trust and especially hope, throughout their story. I was also delighted to learn more in depth about the Japanese tea ceremony, brain research, the Beethoven's First Piano Sonata (I used to play the piano so I found this particular reference quite enjoyable), different cultures (loved the funny, witty and endearing comments for each culture-also loved that Punta de Mita, Mexico is mentioned as a vacation spot) and tour skating in Sweden. I loved the way romance, friendship, medical science, music, culture, philosophy (true, false and pragmatic lies as part of our own existentialist spectrum) and suspense were masterfully combined in an enthralling story line.

Having said that, I do hope that Skogsbeck gives us a sequel where both Red and Gustav would finally give closure to their individual relationship with Julia and move forward with their lives. After all, in my opinion, they already share what are some of the most important elements in life: a loyal friend, commitment, intellectual honesty, passion and love for music and tea.

I will definitely present and recommend ¨Destructive Interference¨ at my next book club meeting.

"Intellectual Pilates.

Destructive Interference is a literary gem.

The author stretches the mind of the reader in a challenging but endearing way through two riveting plots which collide together with devastating consequences. Galloping across the cultures of France, Sweden, Japan, China the USA and more the drama unfolds. Is it real or surreal? Is it fact or fiction? Is it truth or a lie?

A thought provoking masterpiece embracing, passion, love, betrayal and rejection inter woven with leading edge medical science, religion and philosophy."

Philippe; Monaco, London and New York.
Wow, what an engrossing first novel. Taken along on a transatlantic flight, Destructive Interference will keep your mind and emotions occupied until you find yourself turning the last page, and wanting more.

The narrator, French neurologist Red Palleago, declares from the outset that his story will center on a Swedish neurosurgeon friend Gustav, whom he finally meets only halfway through the book. We know Gustav well already by then, thanks to a well-paced, carefully alternated development of both men's characters in the story.

Red's voice is that of a supremely cultivated Western mind, wittily acquainted with cutting-edge brain-function research but also with French and Swedish cuisine, classical and contemporary musical traditions, extreme sports (notably tour ice skating), emergency medicine, and -- at unexpected moments -- the Japanese tea ceremony.

The flow of international dialogue propels the story forward, and some of the action and love scenes cry out for cinematic interpretation. What might have appeared to an average reader as unbelievable sci-fi invention is easily absorbed as novel, normal information.

What will stay with you as you debark from your flight are the characters in this story, especially their striving to understand truth, lies and the essence of communication. You care about the characters. They've become part of you.

You will look forward to Skogsbeck's next novel.
