I waited so long for this second novel after loving Rain Girl. Almost afraid that the story and telling of it wouldn't measure up, I worried that I wouldn't love it as much. Now I can only hope that the author has more to say about Franza and her colleagues as I am already anxiously awaiting a third novel. Her writing is poetic and the images stirring. Raven Sisters Franza Oberwieser Book 2 edition by Gabi Kreslehner Alison Layland Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

The story is about a detective who solves the murder of a sister. As the story goes on, you find out what dark deep secrets the family is hiding.
This was a mystery full twists and turns and I actually had to go back twice to check who the murderer was. It was fascinating reading and kept me on the edge of my seat until the very end.
The first book was so different and good. This deteriorated into past events and maudlin unbelievable stories that bored
me. Stick to your two great detectives and the raising of the third.
The author creates this mystery and brings the reader in to feel a part of it. The story line is most interesting with its twists and turns. It is written like poetry with colorful words and phrases. It pulls you in. I enjoyed another novel by this author and recommend it as a great read.
Another excellent thriller featuring Franza Oberwieser; it's the second available in English (after "Rain Girl") and leaves me anxious for more. The story starts out as a standard European policier -- a woman has been brutally murdered, and the cops' suspicions center on her husband, and on her estranged daughter. But as detective Franza continues to work on the case, the story grows more and more complex, reaching back in time into family histories, and family secrets. The narrative is compelling, and the central character is complex and engaging. I await more!
I really enjoy the way this author writes. The writing style and translation of this book are phenomenal. I love how the author switches from quoted dialogue to a simple paragraph that insinuates the rest of the conversation, rather than spelling it out word for work. Murder mysteries are murder mysteries and while the plot of that portion of the book was a tiny bit contrived at the end, it didn't take away from my enjoyment. I hope this author continues to write books about the main character as I'm really enjoying the character arc. This book does not end with a stereotypical happy ending, it makes you think and feel so much more than that. I truly enjoyed this book as well as the preceding book in the series.
A very readable book, with lots of red herrings and a genuine twist. I enjoyed this second book in the series much more than the first. But it is laughable- the main detective Franza does absolutely no detecting at all, she mainly either has sex, thinks about having sex or mopes around after sex. In between she bakes and once - cooks. All the detection is done by her fellow detectives, Fritz who has intuitive bursts which often lead to a solution, Arthur who finds crucial evidence through leg work, Borger the pathologist who comes up with critical findings. Even Hansen, a bit player, finds the key to the whole mystery. Yet they are all inordinately fond of Franza, who doesn’t in the least, tiny bit, pull her weight or do her share on the team. She’s annoying. I hope future books have less of her, less of idiotic musings in the first person by various protagonists and less preposterous plot lines. But otherwise well done!
I waited so long for this second novel after loving Rain Girl. Almost afraid that the story and telling of it wouldn't measure up, I worried that I wouldn't love it as much.
